A bug-themed party makes a fun and unique birthday party. It is a great opportunity to teach children about insects and spark their interest in science. Bug birthday parties do not have to cost much, and they can be a lot of fun for both parents and children.
Decorations
For younger children, it is better to use dragonfly, butterfly, or ladybug decorations that are less “scary.” Older children might enjoy grasshopper and spider decorations as well. It would also be fun to get the children involved with designing and setting up the ladybug decorations themselves with the assistance of adults.
The best place to hold a bug birthday party would be outside, to create more interaction with nature. Napkins with bug designs printed or drawn on them and plastic bugs placed on table covers can spice up the table.
Games
“Pin the spider on the web” could be a modified version of “pin the tail on the donkey.” Just use a web drawn on a poster board and a spider instead of the donkey’s tail. The child who gets closest to the middle of the web, wins.
Another fun game called “run ants run!” would have one child selected as a leader and the rest of the kids would follow the leader around the yard. Minor obstacles can be set up around the yard like cones. Whichever action that the leader performs, the rest of the children have to follow. When the leader yells “run!” the children have to run back to a designated home area before the leader tags them. The last remaining child wins the game.
Food
There are several food ideas you may wish to include. There’s the traditional and simple “ants on a log,” which are celery stalks filled with peanut butter and topped with raisins. Butterfly or other insect-shaped crackers can be used with some type of meat and/or cheese.
There are also several bug candies that can be used, such as gummy worms or spiders. Gummy worms can be mixed with crushed Oreos in a cup for a “worms in dirt” treat. Drinks might include “bug juice punch” which can be as easy as mixing orange juice with green food coloring.
For a bug-themed birthday party, get a bug-shaped cake. Bug cupcakes can be made from something as simple as a regular cupcake decorated with two pretzels for butterfly wings and some frosting for a butterfly body and head.

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there at some point: standing at the door of our daughter’s room and we start thinking, “She might still be a child, but she’s not a baby anymore. Maybe it’s time to redecorate.” But when we actually start thinking about what elements to choose for her room or how to decorate, we are at a loss. But a beautiful design is easy.
First considerations
When it comes to decorating a child’s room, the first thing to choose is a theme, a main motif that sets the tone. And what better theme for a girl’s room than butterflies? Butterfly decorations are not only easy to find and implement, but are also among a common favorite.
To start, peek into your little girl’s favorite books, clothes and other things that can tell you about her taste and style. I’m always surprised how defined my child’s tastes can be at a young age, so this step is crucial and deserves some time.
Once you get her “style,” then it is time to go shopping, and you should start with a nice butterfly-themed wallpaper. The wallpaper sets the tone for the rest of the decoration. Think about it as the “background music” or as the “soundtrack” of a movie you are filming.
Moving inwards
Once you decide on the wallpaper, it is time to move onto the accessories. A nice set of bed sheets, a pencil case, some prints and even a diary, all these little details go a long way into adding richness to your little girl’s experience every time she walks into her room.
You may also consider creating a “focal point” in her room. I personally like to add a small couch to the corner of her room beside her bed. This allows me to leave her desk totally distraction-free so she can focus in her study whenever she needs to.
Some last-minute tips
Get creative and use nylon butterflies on some of the items in her room. These are inexpensive, come in many sizes and provide a lot of flexibility, since you can remove them at any time. They are also a great way to personalize what would otherwise be “cold” or “distant” items, like clothes hangers and trash bins.
When it comes to decorating, most people think in just one dimension, but you can also add some sound. Something soft and calming like the sound of the forest or other background tone that reinforces the butterfly theme can definitely be complete your room.

DESIGN COMPANY FEATURED IN “ORLANDO SENTINEL” NEWS PIECE
Bugs-n-Blooms Helps Parents Create Amazing Nurseries on a Budget
April 13, 2010 – Prosper, Texas – Bugs-n-Blooms, the premiere retailer of butterfly nursery decorations, has recently been featured in an Orlando Sentinel article aimed at helping parents decorate nurseries on a budget.
Although it costs between $2,000-$6,000 to outfit the average nursery, savvy parents can save thousands by using online retailers to find great deals on everything from basinets and cribs to nylon butterfly decorations. Jennifer De Vol, owner of Bugs-n-Blooms, is also happy to assist parents as they choose the perfect decor accents.
“Decals from Bugs-n-Blooms.com add inexpensive, and removable, accents to infant and toddler rooms,” the Orlando Sentinel article reads. The butterfly decorations (and almost all other wall accents) purchased from Bugs-n-Blooms are easily removed from nursery walls, enabling the nursery to grow with the child.
Of course, this isn’t DeVol’s first time making major news. Her decorations have been wildly popular with parents (celebrity and otherwise) ever since she launched her company. Products from Bugs-n-Blooms have also been featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and in a March issue of OK! Magazine. For parents looking for something specific, DeVol’s team can also create custom designs.

Pink. Floaty. Sparkly. Butterflies.
There is absolutely NOTHING there that is not to love!
“Meet Bugs-n-Blooms, a darling little e-boutique of whimsical flutterbys and girly-bugs. When I saw them in a gift shop years ago. I bought some lovely lavender and green ones on the spot, (a baby gift). Years later again for my neice’s “Big Girl Room” (pink and black it was, so the ladybugs and dragonflies in varying sizes were just the ticket ). And just this week a few sparkly friends are on their way to bless a wee one just about to make her arrival in the world.
If I could come up with a valid excuse, I’d buy some for myself, too. *sigh*
Such is the life of a mom of boys!
Dragonflies, bumblebees, daisies, butterflies in an array of on-trend colors, glitter, fur and sequins (again, isn’t everything in that sentence just delish?) there’s a bug for every little bloom! Oh, and they have wings and tutus, too.”
Oh to be five again!

Butterflies signify peace and tranquility, leaving children and adults in awe of their beauty–why not use them to accessorize and brighten up a room or event? There are many ideas for decorating with nylon butterflies and there are tons of wonderful things you can do with them to add flair to your home or any place you want to have a peaceful setting.
Sprucing up your living space is possible without spending a lot of money. Adding one or two things can create a drastic change, particularly in a small space like the bathroom. A few nylon butterflies can transform your private space into a serene area to take a long bubble bath. Because they are bendable, nylon butterflies can be affixed to the wall, put on a shelf, or hung for a dramatic and calming affect.
How about using the crystal beaded butterflies for your dining area? Are you planning a dinner party? A table setting with soft pastel colors and mini butterflies for napkin holders changes your plain table into a fun place to sit down and enjoy a meal with friends. You can dangle a butterfly or two from a ceiling fan, chandelier, or even the ceiling to add an extra special touch to the room.
Are you searching for a great party theme? The handmade decorations with sequins and matching glitter will bring life to any baby shower, wedding shower, or even a birthday party. Decorating can be as simple or elaborate as you’d like. How about butterflies on the cake to match the hanging decorations?
When considering decorating with butterflies, don’t leave out the little boys. No room with an outdoor theme would be complete without the beautiful little bendable creatures. With so many different colors to choose from, the room won’t be too “girly” for your little man.
With Mother’s Day coming soon, why not fix breakfast for mom and add little butterflies to the breakfast tray? Your mom will feel extra special that you took the time to give her a little something that she will remember. It does not matter how young or how old you are, because the charm of butterflies is timeless. Who doesn’t love the beauty and serenity of a butterfly in spring?
Nylon butterflies can be used for decorating throughout the home as well as parties, but they also make special gifts. For the mom-to-be this can be an addition or inspiration for a nursery idea. For grandma this can be a gift that she will never forget. No matter how you plan on using these sparkly little bugs, they will create a lasting impression without breaking your budget.

Tools and materials needed to paint your own DIY baby nursery wall mural:
- picture to use as your wall mural printed onto clear vellum
- an overhead projector
- a pencil or two, and some assorted colored paints
- an assortment of paint brushes in different sizes
- a drop cloth
To get started you will want to apply a fresh coat of paint to your baby’s nursery. You’ll want a nice background to start with.
The next most important task is to find a good picture to use to base your baby nursery wall mural on. This can be one single graphic, or even combine a few different pictures. It can even be a complete scene which will cover an entire wall or two.
I would recommend hitting a local library to find the picture you are looking for. Cruise through the children’s books section and just start nosing and thumbing through the books. Use the library’s computers to search out books that may be appropriate to your theme. Many of these computer systems will perform a keyword search. If you are doing a jungle theme, for example, just do a search for “jungle” and see what pops up.
Once you find a picture take it on over to a local copy shop. They will color copy the image for you onto translucent paper. It will probably run you under $2.50. I would recommend even getting two copies just in case.
Hopefully you have an overhead projector available to you. If you do not, just ask around. You never know if any friends or family will have one available. I would also inquire about borrowing or renting one from your local library. Don’t forget to check local schools or even just plain go buy one.
The idea is simple. Use the overhead projector to project your chosen baby nursery wall mural image onto the wall. Use pencils to trace the pictures exactly as they look. Once the outlines and whatnot are traced on you can turn the projector off and then paint the mural using your pencil lines. Use your original picture as a reference for color and shading. You really can pull of some amazing wall art with this technique.
Make sure you have an array of paints available to you. I would buy larger cans of the colors that are most prominent, and smaller jars for other colors. You can even just buy a few primary colors and mix them together to get the results you want.
Having an array of different sized brushes is key. You will want some very fine and thin brushes for areas of detail, and larger ones for shading in large areas. Always buy quality brushes. It is tempting to buy the cheapest brushes available, but these brushes always end up loosing bristles straight into your artwork. Avoid picking these bristles out and ruining your work by simply buying quality paint brushes.
