Freebie Friday: Bugs-n-Blooms Product Review and Giveaway

A wonderful customer wrote this review about Bugs-n-Blooms and we thought we would pass it along:
"Happy Friday, loveys!!!! Raise your hand if you like free stuff! Oh, you do too? Nice. Nothing better than something for free. Well, here's the deal. Because I love you soooo much, my favorite regular post is going to be Freebie Fridays. All you have to do is click over here for a fun promotion or contest and a chance to win something really awesome....for free. Cool, right?
I am not an artist.  Not at all.  The closest I come to anything remotely creative is writing, and yeah, unfortunately, I can't write up a cutely creatively decorated room for my daughters.  So last year, when I decided I wanted to redo their bedroom, I found the perfect company to help me with my vision.
Bugs-n-Blooms is a company specializing in little girls' room decor.  They create the most exquisite flowers, butterflies, and other various creations to embellish the boudoir of your little princess.

In addition to wall decor, they also create mobiles, curtain tie-backs, wall stickers, beaded garlands....
.....and my personal favorites, wall alphabet stickers.

The Little One's nursery
The Curly Haired One's room
Some new products from Bugs-n-Blooms are their wearable butterfly wings, tutu skirts, wands, and headbands, which can all be put together into quite the amazing costume for your little one who loves to dress up.
We love the decor that we got from Bugs-n-Blooms.  We've had it for well over a year, and it even withstood a move from our old apartment to our new house!  The butterflies and flowers are incredibly well made, and the stickers came right down with no paint damage whatsoever, and stuck right back up in the new room!  I was personally amazed by that.

And if you're anything like me, which is not creative and a decorating failure, Bugs-n-Blooms has you covered with an entire section on their website filled with decorating ideas, how-to, and step by step instructions on how to hang your decor and bring it to life.

My opinion?  I think Bugs-n-Blooms rocks!  They have so many different colors, styles, and creations that no matter what you are going for in the room you are decorating, you can get it and make it happen with Bugs-n-Blooms.  And wearable butterfly wings?  What little girl wouldn't want a pair?  And I'm not the only one who loves them-they were featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as a provider of room decor!  Because we want you to see how much Bugs-n-Blooms rocks as well,  B-n-B is offering an awesome giveaway to one lucky reader!!!

Butterfly Themed Nursery Ideas

Decorating your baby's nursery in a butterfly theme is a beautiful way to brighten the room for your baby girl. Butterflies are delicate creatures, each unique in their intricate designs and colors. There are creative ways you can bring the beauty of butterflies into the nursery in an elegant way that looks well put together and enhances the feel of the room.
Choosing Items
Choose a few key butterfly items for your nursery rather than overwhelming the room with everything butterfly-themed. Additional items can be coordinated to match the butterfly's colors. Your colors should be bright, as babies prefer these over pastels. Newborns, however, prefer black and white due to the contrast of shades, which is easier for them to see.
Hanging Butterflies
Take small hooks and screw them into the ceiling. Find large butterflies at Bugs-n-Blooms that can be hung from the hooks using fishing line. They'll fly around as the breeze hits them and delight the baby from her crib.
Wall Decals
Use butterfly wall decals to decorate the walls. Bugs-n-Blooms has vinyl wall decal stickers that are custom in your choice of colors. With a large color palette, you can match the decals to the colors in your baby's nursery. You can pick up other decals that work well with the butterfly theme, such as clouds for the ceiling or flowers for the butterflies to sit on.
Crib and Bedding
Decorate her crib with a few butterfly items and solid colors to coordinate. The bedding should be simple with a few butterfly items standing out from the rest. While the crib sheet can be a solid bold color, the blanket can be a colorful array of butterflies. The mobile is a great way to showcase hanging butterflies. Since butterflies are one of the more popular themes for babies, you'll be able to find several selections of butterfly mobiles available at their store, both online and in-store.
Butterfly Rug
Complete the room with a large butterfly rug or several smaller ones. You can find rugs that have an assortment of butterflies on them to rugs that are in the shape of a large butterfly.

Girl Room Decorating Ideas, Garden Theme Bedroom Decorations

Whether you opt for a room full of flowers or butterflies or go with a garden or tea party theme your daughter’s room – it’s easy to create the room of her dreams with a few creative touches.
Following is a collection of garden and butterfly related theme ideas. I hope the following ideas inspire some girl room ideas of your own.
Flower Power
For a cool retro look think bright oranges, sunny yellows, lime greens, and watermelon pinks. Look for vibrant wall borders and fabrics with simple flower shapes.
Team girl room colors up with solid colored bedding and window treatments. Use flower prints again on throw cushions and in an area rug.
Go one step further and trace some of the flower shapes from the border or fabric and create random floral patterns on your child’s wall and then paint to match the colors elsewhere in her kid room. Or you could display the tops of some bright and colorful flowers in simple frames and use to bring her girl room theme together.
Butterflies
When it comes to girl rooms - butterflies are big! Since butterflies are a popular theme room idea for girls, the kid room decorating market offers many fun fabrics and accessories that will easily bring a butterfly theme together.
A kid room mural featuring a garden and butterflies is a great place to start or you could opt for summery pink or yellow painted walls and make a butterfly comforter or quilt the focal point of the room instead.
A decorative border, some reusable wall stickers, a butterfly mobile or some butterflies hung by a screw eye and fishing line would go along way to bringing all the room elements together.
Other girl room theme ideas include painting butterflies or using reusable stickers on furniture and accenting a lampshade, curtain, thin picture frame or bulletin board with butterfly hair clips.
Garden party
For another take on a feminine girl room consider soft pinks, gentle violets and mellow yellows to create a garden party theme your daughter will cherish for years to come.
Consider airy curtains and soft floral or thin striped fabrics.
For a custom look hang your child’s curtains from a wooden dowel (painted white) to which the ends of dollar store hand tools have been affixed (remove the handles first).
What about a garden trellis, a picket fence or lattice headboard? Hanging artificial flowers and butterflies from the ceiling (use fishing line and a screw eye) is also a great idea.
Or how about using white lattice on the bottom half of your child’s wall and painting the top part of her walls blue and sponging on some white fluffy clouds?
Alternatively you could try your hand at painting a wall mural or simply put up a ready-made one. Reusable wall stickers and a decorative wall border would also be a good way of bringing her garden party theme together.
Creative storage ideas that tie in well with this girl room theme include using three extra large terra-cotta-looking plastic pots to throw toys into and a variety of individual white painted wooden pegs or peg racks for storing items in mesh bags.
White painted furniture and a child’s table and chair set in a corner would be the ideal spot for a tea party with friends.

Butterfly Nursery Decor

The nursery is where a baby sleeps, plays and spends a lot of time with his parents. Because of the amount of time spent in the room, decorating the nursery is important. As she grows, she'll begin to notice the things that surround her. The decor of the nursery should be comforting, relaxing and nice to look at. Butterflies are a soothing decor theme for a nursery that is appropriate for boys and girls.
Walls:
Nursery walls should be given a coat of lead-free paint. Select colors that go best with the furniture and theme of your butterfly decor. For example, if you'll be painting butterflies in flight, first paint your walls light sky blue as a background. Alternately, paint walls light pink, yellow or light green. On one wall, paint a mural of a field of flowers, then add construction-paper butterflies to give the wall a three-dimensional look. Put the butterflies up high enough that little hands can't get them. Or use a projector to light up the walls with butterfly images.
Refurbished Furniture:
To continue the theme, decorate the nursery's furniture with butterflies. Recycle an older child's bed or find a new bed at a yard sale or flea market. Wash down the bed and let it dry. Paint the frame in a light color such as white or cream. Stencil or decoupage butterflies all along the bed. Put a few on the inside so the baby can look at the butterflies. The same can be done with an old dresser.
Ceiling Butterflies:
Large nylon butterfly purchased from Bugs-n-Blooms can be hung from the ceiling using the included fishing string and eye hooks. Paint the hooks the same color as the ceiling so you can't see them. Spread the butterflies around so if the wind blows, the strings won't get tangled. Also keep them high enough off the ground that kids can't pull them or hurt themselves with them. Add some over the baby's bed in place of a mobile. Use butterflies in a variety of colors, styles at varied heights.

Making Butterfly Decor for a Nursery

Planning Your Theme
Butterfly themed nurseries are all the rage for a newborn girl's room. The colors of this theme are shades of pinks, purples, greens and delicate yellows. These hues can evoke a sense of new life and vitality. Choosing fabrics depending on what pieces you will be sewing, you can choose from an endless array of fabrics when making bedding, window treatments, wall hangings, pillows and cushions for your new room. After you have picked your colors and fabrics, you can use a piece of each one to make a baby quilt. You may choose to keep the background solid, use the different fabrics to make the butterfly's wings and body and then sew them to the quilt. Matching butterflies can be made to use for wall hangings and pillows.

Walls
Wall colors can be decided upon by taking one or two shades from the fabrics. For a simple border idea, buy inexpensive butterfly-shape sponges from a craft store and dip them in various colors of paint that match the bedding. Stamp them up along the border of the walls. These can be easily painted over as the child grows and the decor in the room changes. Removable wall decals are also a popular and inexpensive option.

Finishing Touches
A wooden toy chest, a rocking chair stenciled with butterflies and flowers and a butterfly-shape rug will finish off the room nicely.

    Personalize Your Babys Nursery

Decorators can personalize a baby’s butterfly nursery with adorable handprint butterflies for each month of the new baby’s life. This easy project can be completed in a matter of minutes and will be a great addition to the scrap book once the nursery theme changes.
    1. Trace each of the baby’s hand prints on two colors of construction paper.
    2. Cut out the two sets of hand prints.
    3. Paste them onto card stock or mat board, one color for the upper wings, and the other color for the lower wings.
    4. Draw a butterfly body with antenna, then cut and paste to complete the picture.
Parents can help toddlers and older kids personalize the butterfly room by making beautiful tissue paper butterflies to add depth to the bedroom’s walls, and brighten the windows.
    1. Stack two pieces of construction paper on top of each other and fold in half.
    2. While the paper is still folded, cut one side of wings then unfold to reveal a symmetrical butterfly.
    3. Refold the butterflies and cut shapes from the wings as if making a paper snowflake.
    4. When finished, paste colored tissue paper or tin foil pieces on the backside of one butterfly to show through the patterns cut into the wings.
    5. When all the holes are filled, paste the second construction paper butterfly over the tissue paper to finish off the back.
    6. Fold a piece of pipe cleaner in half and twist together over the middle of the wings.
    7. Curl the tops of the pipe cleaner to form antenna then tie fishing line for hanging.
Parents and kids will also enjoy scoping out a bunch of butterfly illustrations from magazines and picture books at the used book store. They can clip favorite photos with their child and use the pictures to decoupage accent pieces for the room such as pencil cans, plaques for the wall, a table and chairs, or nightstand. Touches like these make a butterfly theme room feel special and fill it with happy memories.

Plan The Perfect Baby Shower - Butterfly Diaper Cakes

Oh, so pretty!  Simple but elegant, this pink butterfly diaper cake for girls is absolutely gorgeous!  The diapers are not rolled, but fanned around a center core and wrapped in a dark pink ribbon edged in white.
A baby shower done all in pink and white would be amiss not to have this diaper cake as a baby shower centerpiece.  I think it’s the most graceful cake I’ve seen.

It would look wonderful on a pink table cloth, with pink and white balloons and Mylar baby balloons.  Add some bunches of white flowers, and a white and pink cake and you’re in business.
This butterfly diaper cake is made with 40 disposable diapers in two layers and topped with white knit baby booties with a bejeweled butterfly applique.
There’s also a baby t-shirt with the same butterfly applique which is the decoration you see for the second tier.
Pink confetti paper looks like sugar frosting on all of the layers and a simple, white bow graces the middle of the bottom tier.
The diaper cake comes wrapped in tulle.  Frankly, it’s just too pretty to pull apart, don’t you think?

Wall Decorating Ideas For Kids Bedrooms

We love  to add the personality we love when decorating kid’s rooms. There are so many ways to achieve this from painted wall stencils, wall decals, or kid’s wallpaper.

We challenged ourselves to come up with 10 designs for wall borders for girls’ rooms to help inspire your creativity so here goes….

    1) Flowers - OK. An easy one. But, there are so many ways to make this unique. Think pinks and purples for daisies and tulips. Think yellow for daisies, dandelions, and sunflowers. Vertical or horizontal borders make this the ultimate exercise in creativity. We love how the room pictured above from Wall to Wall Stencils creatively creates a border around a window.

    2) Butterflies – A stylish way to dress up her room without getting complicated. Envision butterflies around a mirror or a headboard or hanging from the ceiling or attaching to the walls.

    3) Insects - Add dragonflies, butterflies, ladybugs, and bees to your walls and paint an cute insect-themed border near the ceiling.

    4) Polka dots - A timeless decor element that can be simple and subtle or bold and cheery. Think different sized dots in the middle of the wall for a fun look for an older girl. Removable wall decals are a great solution for something less permanent than paint.

    5) Disney characters - Where would we be without Disney? Pooh, Ariel, Snow White, etc. Check Babies ‘R Us or Amazon for their wallpaper border selection for a Disney themed nursery or girl’s room.

    6) Ballet slippers - For the lovers of pink! Tiny toes tip toeing across the wall would add delightful detail to a pretty in pink room.

    7) Princesses - Crowns, magic wands, and colorful gems for your little princess.

    8) Fairies - Flitting across the wall with their cute wings and dainty look.

    9) Her Name - Emma or Emily? Sophia or Isabella? Whatever the beautiful name you have chosen for her, personalize her room with her name repeating across the wall in different colors.

    10) Suns and clouds - This fresh idea will bring smiles to your little girl every day as she wakes up basking in the sun. Use vinyl wall decals for decor that is easily removable.

Select the Baby Bedding That is Right for you

Oftentimes new parents choose baby bedding based upon its looks instead of its functionality. Unfortunately, this is not the way in which baby bedding should be chosen. Instead, a baby’s safety and comfort should be thought of first and foremost. When you begin thinking in this way, you will find that there are some things that you really should not do. This includes:

    1. Do not ignore your baby’s safety. Their crib must conform to the government’s safety standards. Even so, you should still look for any parts that may be dangerous for your baby. This includes sharp corners, flimsy wheels, or slats that are more than 2.5 inches apart. So, while you may want to purchase a used crib, you need to make sure that it conforms to these rules and that it is not listed as one of the cribs that has been recalled.

    2. You should never use any bedding material that your baby may be allergic to. Instead, you should use wool, cotton or another type of baby-friendly synthetic material.
    3. Make sure that the baby bedding you use is not soft. Instead, your baby’s bedding should be firm. This is really important because soft baby bedding is one of the leading causes of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

    4. Do not stuff your baby’s crib full of cushions or too many other items. In fact, the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) will tell you that pillows, cushions and other soft items should not be left in your crib while your baby is sleeping.

    5. Do not use bumper pads. Again, the AAP recommends that these also increase your baby’s risk of SIDS. If you are still stuck on the idea of using bumper pads, then make sure that they are not soft or bulky, that they are properly attached to the crib and that you cut off any extra string.

    6. You need to be sure that you never use rubber sheets. These use to be quite popular as they keep things dry but you should know that they will also irritate your baby’s skin. So, today flannel-lined mattress pads are being used instead since they have been specifically designed to keep things dry without irritating your baby’s skin.

Now that you are more knowledgeable about making sure not to do certain things, you should also feel as though you are more knowledgeable about those things that you should do and those things that you should purchase for inside of your baby’s bed. If you keep these things in mind whenever you do your shopping, your baby will be safe and feel secure.

How to Create a Butterfly Themed Nursery for Your Little One

There’s nothing quite like a room filled with delicate and whimsical butterflies to brighten the day of any little girl.  From light and airy butterflies with their beautiful butterfly wings dancing from the ceiling to dainty butterflies accenting the corners of a room, butterfly themed décor is a popular option for baby nurseries and little girl’s rooms.
Why do little girls love butterflies so much?  The colorful and beautiful creatures evoke a light and airy feeling that make all things seem possible.  Whether they are fluttering through a garden scene or hanging from the corners of a room, butterflies are magical and make little girls feel like they are in a land of make believe or one made especially for a fairy princess.  Their delicate nature evokes all of the elements that little girls love.
Creating a butterfly themed nursery or room for your little one is easy to do.  Butterflies come in many shapes and forms, a huge variety of colors and patterns, and an assortment of textures and sizes, so no matter what type of room you are hoping to design, there are butterfly decorations and accessories that will fit right in with your vision for the room.
No butterfly themed room is complete without a few of the light and airy creatures hanging from the ceiling.  One of the most popular types of butterfly room decorations are the beautiful and colorful sheer butterflies that can be hung from just about anywhere.  These decorations come in a variety of sizes with butterfly wings made from sheer nylon netting.  The nylon butterfly wings come in an assortment of different colors and patterns, just like the wide variety of real butterfly wings found in nature, although the most popular color for these whimsical butterflies are in pastel colors ranging from pinks and purples to greens, blues and pale yellows.
As the sheer butterfly wings daintily dangle from the ceiling blowing in the breeze and seemingly fluttering in the air, there are other decorative options that are equally at home in a butterfly themed nursery or room made for a little girl.  Butterflies can be painted on the wall and are an easy do-it-yourself project for those with even just a minimum of artistic talent.  There’s no “wrong” way to draw or paint a butterfly, so as long as you can master the basic shape of a small thin body engulfed by expansive butterfly wings on either side, you can create a butterfly.  The exact shape of the wings or size of the butterfly is up to you, but it is how you decorate the butterfly wings themselves that will take center stage in your décor.
For nurseries, another great option for a butterfly themed room is to purchase or create a mobile of colorful butterflies.  As the light and airy butterflies “fly” above baby’s crib, the colorful butterfly wings will mesmerize baby and keep her stimulated and entertained for hours.  Even butterflies that hang from the ceiling around the room will capture the attention of baby throughout the day with their beautiful colors as they flutter in the breeze.
Rooms with butterfly themed decor can also include decorative items such as window treatments, bedding, decorative pillows and other elements that are studded with colorful butterflies or simply are colored to coordinate with other butterfly decorations.  Butterfly themed nurseries or bedrooms can also have other garden elements, such as flowers, birds and white picket fences, or they can have fairy-like accents, such as clouds, angels and stars.  Sprinkling a few small colorful butterflies around the room in unlikely places, such as at the edge of a shelf or hanging from a mirror, is a great way to add a bit of whimsy and interest to any room.
