As your child grows, annual photography sessions provide a keepsake record of her development over the years. Deciding how to dress your child is an important part of this process, and you want to capture a sense of her personality in the picture as well as her image. Carefully select clothes or costumes that reflect your child’s hopes, dreams and diversions at that time in her life. And don’t forget the accessories that pull the whole outfit together.
Does your child have a fairy-like sense of innocence? Consider a fairy princess picture. Include a wand and butterfly wings with her outfit to showcase her fanciful ways. Add a tiara or an eye-catching headband featuring flowers or oversized bows to complete the look. Be sure the outfit is in her favorite color, whether it’s purple, pink, blue, green, or whatever hue suits her tastes.
Highlight your child’s free spirit by having her wear a butterfly costume in the photo. Butterfly wings can include a variety of design elements, from swirls to glitter to gems, and adding a butterfly wand will enhance the theme. Tutu skirts of any length will complement this costume, too.
If you have an aspiring ballerina on your hands, encourage her passion by dressing her as a dancer for her photo shoot. Start with a leotard, then add a tutu skirt, tights and ballet slippers or toe shoes. Let her dance around the studio, and have the photographer snap shots of her favorite moves.
You may want to take the lead, but involve your child in the process of picking out attire, too. Lay out some of her favorite items and ask her which ones she would like to bring to the shoot. Asking for her input will help her feel more invested in the portrait session, and she’ll be looking forward to the appointment.
Although you’ve given a lot of attention to your child’s outfit and accessories, don’t forget about the backdrop. It’s another important piece of the picture. When dressing your child like a butterfly, ballerina, or fairy princess, choose a whimsical background to complete the scene. Ask the photographer for some suggestions that go with the outfit you and your daughter have selected.

If you’re a teacher, you know that the decor in your classroom sets the tone for the learning activities that take place there. Incorporating bugs and flowers into that theme creates a visually stimulating environment that supports education. Plus, a garden haven can show your students that bugs can be beautiful.
Begin by lining the walls with large floral stickers, or paint a variety of flowers to create the garden’s base. Throw in some blades of grass with bright green paint, as well. Add a sun sticker near the ceiling, and include some accompanying clouds to complete the background.
Next, add the insects, starting with nylon butterfly decorations on the walls and include some butterfly garland or mobiles strung from the ceiling, too. The fanciful creatures will inspire your students to use their imaginations, and they can add a variety of textures and embellishments, like glitter and gems, to your room. You can extend this motif by posting the alphabet using butterfly-decorated letter stickers.
Ladybug decorations are also a nice addition. Scatter mini-ladybugs around the room, or place a few smiling ladybugs in prominent locations. Their red-and-black scheme adds a splash of bright color to your decor, and you can tell your students that the ladybugs will bring them luck!
Of course, bees will create a buzz among your students, as well. The notoriously hard-working insects will be role models for your students who will want to do the same. Bees can be added to the classroom through stickers hovering near the flowers or by hanging glitter bumblebees along the walls. Dragonflies are another interesting option, and the children will find their unique shape intriguing. Consider nylon dragonfly decorations that feature sparkles, layers or a rainbow-color scheme.
The bug theme opens the door for a slew of lesson plans on a variety of subjects. Use the bee decorations and flower stickers to demonstrate how pollination works for a great science activity. Build students’ English skills by having them write a story about a friendship between the ladybug and the butterfly. The possibilities are endless!
