Tools and materials needed to paint your own DIY baby nursery wall mural:
- picture to use as your wall mural printed onto clear vellum
- an overhead projector
- a pencil or two, and some assorted colored paints
- an assortment of paint brushes in different sizes
- a drop cloth
To get started you will want to apply a fresh coat of paint to your baby’s nursery. You’ll want a nice background to start with.
The next most important task is to find a good picture to use to base your baby nursery wall mural on. This can be one single graphic, or even combine a few different pictures. It can even be a complete scene which will cover an entire wall or two.
I would recommend hitting a local library to find the picture you are looking for. Cruise through the children’s books section and just start nosing and thumbing through the books. Use the library’s computers to search out books that may be appropriate to your theme. Many of these computer systems will perform a keyword search. If you are doing a jungle theme, for example, just do a search for “jungle” and see what pops up.
Once you find a picture take it on over to a local copy shop. They will color copy the image for you onto translucent paper. It will probably run you under $2.50. I would recommend even getting two copies just in case.
Hopefully you have an overhead projector available to you. If you do not, just ask around. You never know if any friends or family will have one available. I would also inquire about borrowing or renting one from your local library. Don’t forget to check local schools or even just plain go buy one.
The idea is simple. Use the overhead projector to project your chosen baby nursery wall mural image onto the wall. Use pencils to trace the pictures exactly as they look. Once the outlines and whatnot are traced on you can turn the projector off and then paint the mural using your pencil lines. Use your original picture as a reference for color and shading. You really can pull of some amazing wall art with this technique.
Make sure you have an array of paints available to you. I would buy larger cans of the colors that are most prominent, and smaller jars for other colors. You can even just buy a few primary colors and mix them together to get the results you want.
Having an array of different sized brushes is key. You will want some very fine and thin brushes for areas of detail, and larger ones for shading in large areas. Always buy quality brushes. It is tempting to buy the cheapest brushes available, but these brushes always end up loosing bristles straight into your artwork. Avoid picking these bristles out and ruining your work by simply buying quality paint brushes.

Easter is coming! For the spring lover, there is no better time of year. It’s time to celebrate the new growth and beauty of the season. The cold weather is breaking and before you know it, light jackets and short sleeves will make their entrance from the dark recesses of the closet. The delicate air and young blossoms call you outdoors. The feeling is unlike any other time of year.
Decorating for Easter is a yearly tradition and rite of spring. When that spring fever hits, I know the time has come to transform the inside to match the outside. I start by pulling out my favorite plants and placing them more prominently in the room. Spring isn’t spring without flowers and butterflies, so they follow the path of the plants. The exquisite little nylon butterflies attached to craft wire and placed into the plants appear as though they have elegantly paused mid-flight to rest.
I like to make new fresh flower bouquets and arrangements for the season and I add the smaller nylon butterflies among the blossoms. The smaller nylon butterflies give it a similar yet different feel, so that they tie into my theme but are not repetitive. For example, in one area I will use nylon butterflies gracefully adorned with sparking jewels or crystals to catch the sunlight. In another, I use the sequined type. On occasion, I’ll hang beautiful daisies or ladybugs among the butterflies for a truly magical feel. Close to Easter, we add bunny decorations and eggs into the mix for an egg hunt.
During the Easter season, we celebrate love and beauty of the soul. Pulling Easter in through the though of life renewal carries special meaning for our family and we all look forward to the season. I was thrilled this year when my daughter asked me to help decorate the kids’ game room, too. Her love of my butterfly collection, especially the nylon butterflies with the jewels and sequins, led me to know exactly what we would do for the kids’ game room.
We added not only the nylon butterflies and springtime decorations but also cloud wall stickers and even some beautifully decorated alphabet letters in a springtime theme. The room now shines. We created an inspiring and exciting place to enjoy the wonder and newness of spring and get ready for the fun and renewal of Easter.

When you think about little boys playing outdoors on a spring day–picking up bugs and trying to catch butterflies — it is a moment of precious childhood that you never forget. Consider bringing the outdoors in by decorating your son’s room with bumblebees, butterflies, and ladybug decorations so your little one can let his imagination soar.
Mini ladybug decorations are adorable little creatures, covered in nylon with a wire frame, that are soft and bendable. You can put all the mini bugs on the wall or scatter them throughout the room. They can be put on a doorknob with a loop or dangled from the ceiling with a piece of fishing line. They can be mixed and matched with other little bugs to convert a little boy’s room into an (indoor) outdoor wonderland.
Hanging ladybug room decorations are larger than the mini bugs, but they are also soft and bendable with hand-painted black dots and glitter on the wings for a special touch. Your little one will welcome the smiling ladybugs into his collection. Put them on the wall or hang them from the ceiling.
One great decorating idea is to create a 3D outdoor wall mural. Start with a bright blue sky background adding clouds, green grass, a bright smiling sun, and even a pond. You can add a huge 3D tree, and don’t forget the little bugs that all boys love, as well as frogs, reptiles, and birds. How about including a picture of your little one sitting on a tree swing? This idea can be as exciting as you make it. Ask your little man to help with the painting. Adding his special touch will make it a fun time to spend together and he will be excited and proud of his accomplishment.
Another great addition is to add stuffed birds, frogs, and other soft and fuzzy animals. Stuffed animal shaped chairs make a cozy little area for your young man’s personal space.
No room would be complete without coordinated bedding. Bright, cheerful colors with matching throw rugs and curtains can transform any room without much effort. Big fluffy comforters with matching curtains are a must to complete any boy’s room. Ladybug curtain tiebacks add pizzazz to an already amazing room. This little accessory can even make a plain set of curtains fun and exciting.
Consider adding different animal wall stickers, hanging bugs, or bend the ladybugs so they can sit on a shelf or a nightstand. You can affix them to the headboard or sit them on the dresser. Let your imagination go to work as you create the perfect space for your special little boy.

A butterfly birthday party is a perfect idea for a little girl. You can create a magical birthday party with a fun butterfly theme that she will never forget with these fun creative ideas.
Get Ready to Flutter
Begin by stocking up on all the necessary birthday party supplies – plates, napkins, balloons – all with a butterfly theme. Check your local dollar store for these supplies at a fraction of the cost of other places. Then get your invitations ready. Cut out butterfly-shaped cards the size of a post card, and let your child decorate them with stickers. Tape the actual party invitation to the back on one side, and then mail it off.
Butterfly Decorations
Draw and cut out large butterflies from poster board. Color and decorate the butterflies and hang them from the ceiling. Make large flowers to tape to the walls. Decorate the tables and walls with pastel-colored crepe paper and balloons. For a table centerpiece, fill a large vase with colorful flowers, and add tiny butterflies to the flowers. Butterfly magnets make great place holders the kids can take home.
Butterfly Party Activities
A fun activity for your butterfly birthday party would be to make coffee filter butterflies. You need a clothespin, coffee filters and markers. Have the kids color sections of the coffee filters. Spritz them with water, and the colors will run together. Let them dry, and then pinch the middle of the flat coffee filter and push it up into the clothespin so that two wings seem to puff out. Add wiggly eyes and chenille stem antennae.
You could also cut out wings that are large enough for the party guests in advance. Use paper bags, and cut wings from the large sides of the bags. Tape them together, and punch holes near where the wings meet so you can tie the wings on the children. Then, the guests can paint designs on the wings, and you can attach the wings to the children’s backs so they can fly around.
Butterfly Birthday Cake – It’s Easy to Do
Bake a round cake according to the directions on the cake mix box. Cut the cake in half. Turn the two halves around on the cookie sheet so that the round sides touch in the middle and the wider, flat edges are pointing out. You can leave it like this, or trim the rounded edges for a more triangular look. Ice the cake in pastel colors, pipe an icing body down the middle, add licorice antennae and you have a beautiful butterfly cake. Pastel-colored ice cream completes the party.
Party Food
Everyday food becomes fun when you give it a new name and add a twist. Try serving these fun foods at your butterfly party.
Butterfly Nector – Combine equal parts apricot nectar (in the juice aisle) and 7-Up. Float rainbow sherbet on top.
Butterfly Jewel Sandwiches – Make jelly sandwiches in a variety of colors. Use flavors such as grape, strawberry and peach. Remove crusts and cut in half on the diagonal. Place sandwiches on a small plate with the wide side facing out like wings. Add a baby carrot in the middle for the wings, raisins for eyes and licorice for wings. “Glue” in place with small dabs of jelly or icing.
Garden Goodies – Celery sticks, baby carrots, mini tomatoes and tiny radishes along with dip are the perfect accompaniment to this part.
Goody Bags to Go
Send the kids home with goody bags decorated with butterflies. Include items in the bag such as butterfly-shaped toys, butterfly and flower stickers or a small book on butterflies. Wrap up your party by having your child send out butterfly-themed thank-you notes.

Springtime is on it’s way! The sun is coming out to warm the world around us and a myriad of new life is awakening. The birds are beginning to chirp and the flowers will soon be blooming. Children will be watching beautiful butterflies that have emerged from their cocoons, flitting from bloom to bloom performing the tasks that will spread the pollen from flower to flower and bring spring into the full bloom of summer.
We celebrate the new life that blossoms every year and implores us to refocus and start anew. More than any other time of year, we can feel the hope and promise that the future holds. What better way to celebrate a new beginning than to welcome it into our spaces? From the home to the schoolroom, spring decor will bring liveliness and bliss into the atmosphere.
Schoolrooms can be turned into a wonderfully enchanting springtime garden oasis by using various types of easily applied items to invoke the feel of spring. Wonderful touches like sun and cloud wall stickers, flowers painted on the walls or applied with wall stickers, and even beautiful nylon butterflies in magical flight can make the space perfect.
Decorate your walls with butterfly or springtime alphabet wall stickers for the younger grades, to engage their imaginations while still learning the basics. The children can be involved in the decorating by helping to either decide the location of the letters or helping to place the decor for a feeling of accomplishment in creating such blissful elegance.
In the study of springtime happenings, butterflies are perfect. Butterflies are great way to introduce several science lessons, a variety of art projects and even field trips. From simple sparkling wings, to enchanting and brightly colored jewels adorning the wings, you can find a variety of beautiful, elegant and graceful nylon butterflies to use in your classroom. They simply add a magical and enchanting feel. The children can each make their own nylon butterflies and add them to the decor of the room. Mixing them in with nylon butterflies you’ve purchased and attaching them to clear fishing line stretched across the room invites ownership from the children as they have assisted and personalized the room.
Bringing spring into the classroom through topic selection and decor, especially with a butterfly theme, will literally transform your learning environment into a fairytale world that that captures young imaginations. Activating the imagination will bring more focus and enhance the learning experience. Children respond to this environment and will learn more freely, as well as remaining happy and enjoying their classroom atmosphere.

A wonderful customer wrote this review about Bugs-n-Blooms and we thought we would pass it along:
“Happy Friday, loveys!!!! Raise your hand if you like free stuff! Oh, you do too? Nice. Nothing better than something for free. Well, here’s the deal. Because I love you soooo much, my favorite regular post is going to be Freebie Fridays. All you have to do is click over here for a fun promotion or contest and a chance to win something really awesome….for free. Cool, right?
I am not an artist. Not at all. The closest I come to anything remotely creative is writing, and yeah, unfortunately, I can’t write up a cutely creatively decorated room for my daughters. So last year, when I decided I wanted to redo their bedroom, I found the perfect company to help me with my vision.
Bugs-n-Blooms is a company specializing in little girls’ room decor. They create the most exquisite flowers, butterflies, and other various creations to embellish the boudoir of your little princess.
In addition to wall decor, they also create mobiles, curtain tie-backs, wall stickers, beaded garlands….
…..and my personal favorites, wall alphabet stickers.
The Little One’s nursery
The Curly Haired One’s room
Some new products from Bugs-n-Blooms are their wearable butterfly wings, tutu skirts, wands, and headbands, which can all be put together into quite the amazing costume for your little one who loves to dress up.
We love the decor that we got from Bugs-n-Blooms. We’ve had it for well over a year, and it even withstood a move from our old apartment to our new house! The butterflies and flowers are incredibly well made, and the stickers came right down with no paint damage whatsoever, and stuck right back up in the new room! I was personally amazed by that.
And if you’re anything like me, which is not creative and a decorating failure, Bugs-n-Blooms has you covered with an entire section on their website filled with decorating ideas, how-to, and step by step instructions on how to hang your decor and bring it to life.
My opinion? I think Bugs-n-Blooms rocks! They have so many different colors, styles, and creations that no matter what you are going for in the room you are decorating, you can get it and make it happen with Bugs-n-Blooms. And wearable butterfly wings? What little girl wouldn’t want a pair? And I’m not the only one who loves them-they were featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as a provider of room decor! Because we want you to see how much Bugs-n-Blooms rocks as well, B-n-B is offering an awesome giveaway to one lucky reader!!!

For those of us with a love of butterflies and garden decor, the perfect time of year is approaching! The imminent arrival of spring energizes the air with happy thoughts of shedding our jackets and starting the spring rituals: opening the windows to feel the fresh air and the planning special events, anticipating the warmth and sunshine, invoking the desire for all things lovely and fresh.
Spring is the perfect time of year to plan bridal showers and receptions, and, of course, celebrations for the graduate in your life. Whether you are planning to have these celebrations indoors or outdoors, a garden theme or celebration of spring is in order. Using butterflies in your decor will bring these to life. How perfect for the butterfly lover in us all!
For bridal showers and receptions, you can make beautiful centerpieces and attach bejeweled nylon butterflies to the side of a vase. You can also make a nice water feature by filling vases or bowls with water, adding colorful marbles on the bottom, and a beautiful butterfly landing onto the edge of the bowl. Any attendee will love receiving one of these gorgeous signs of spring as part of a door prize arrangement or as a gift for the many games we play.
Any arches or flower decor can instantly achieve another level of elegance and fantasy by slipping in an occasional butterfly in among the petals or wired to the arch. Butterfly decor touches the imagination and allows the mind to achieve sublime enjoyment of your festivities. There are many ways to implement butterflies into your wall decor, from wall stickers to flowered displays, where butterflies are float from one delicate bloom to another.
Your high school or college graduate will be delighted to see her favorite butterfly theme added to her graduation celebration. For an outdoor celebration, attach some clear or sparkled wiring (at a safe height) between trees and allow beautiful, magical butterflies to enhance your garden celebrations. Even in evening, the lighted array of colors sparkling through the night will delight your guests.
