Family Thanks Community For ‘Extreme Makeover’ Home

Monday, November 30th, 2009

The Marshall family, of Lyme, is settling into their new home, which was built by volunteers and craftsmen for the ABC show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

For the first time since getting their new home, the Marshalls spoke Tuesday about the outpouring of help from volunteers and how their time away from New Hampshire helped them come together.”

The bus moved, and probably if you had pinched me, I wouldn’t have felt it because it wasn’t real,” said mother Elena Marshall. “It was so amazing.”For all the excitement of getting a new home, the Marshalls said they slept soundly in New Hampshire, exhausted from a Walt Disney World visit the show provided.

“For the whole family to be in the same place, watching fireworks at Disney, that’s special,” said father Jay Marshall.

“It was so wonderful,” Elena Marshall said. “There were ups there, were downs, but it was an experience we haven’t had an opportunity to have.

“The gifts kept on coming for the Marshalls, including new bikes and ski passes to New Hampshire resorts. A huge poster put together by children in Lyme got an emotional reaction from Elena Marshall, who whispered that it was “beautiful.

“Photos also now show the moment when the Marshalls got a chance to meet actor Patrick Dempsey. Daughter Olivia now has a picture of him placed next to her new bed.

“I saw that,” she said. “Sweet dreams tonight.”But for everything they received, the family said they wished they could have chipped in with the project. Son Beau Marshall said he hoped the outpouring of generosity would inspire others.

“You tell one or two people about it, and hopefully then they’ll do the same thing, and eventually it spreads throughout the world,” he said. The Be+ charity (pronounced “Be Positive”) also benefited from the show. The fund was started by son Cameron Marshall to raise money for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth. Donations raised in the past week totaled more than $77,000.

Decorating Girls Bedroom Nursery Walls, Floors and Ceilings

Wall, Floor and Ceiling Theme For Girls Bedroom Or Nursery

  1. Look for a common theme in your decorations. For instance, the following themes are recommended for a baby girl’s room: flowers, butterflies, stars, angels, ladybugs, fairies or the name of the baby. Having a theme in mind before decorating a room for your newborn helps you to choose the appropriate accessories, paints and window treatments.
  2. Understand that you can choose more than one color for the room. Make sure to remove all the old paint since inhaled paint particles might be harmful for your child. You should paint the wall well in advance of your baby’s arrival since newborn babies are sensitive to chemicals and might become allergic to the new paint. You can also paint a mural or use wall stickers. A mural using wall stickers gives visual stimulation for your baby’s developing senses.
  3. Keep in mind that the room can feature carpet, hard wood or tile floor. Hard wood floor is the best choice since it is easier to clean. You can always add a beautiful and soft rug to add softness and warmth to the room.
  4. Understand that a newborn spends most of the time lying on her back, so decorating the ceiling is important. Hang beautiful ceiling decorations from the ceiling to catch the baby’s eye as they sparkle in the light.
  5. You can choose different textiles and designs when decorating the window. Remember that it is harmful to expose your newborn to sunlight that comes through the windows. Keep the room of your newborn in the shady party of your home. You can use beautiful coordinating curtain tiebacks to continue with your theme of your nursery on your sheers or curtains.

Butterfly Nursery Decor – Very Hungry Caterpiller Book

Butterfly Nursery Decor

Decorators can emphasize the butterfly theme by framing pages from Eric Carle’s well-loved Very Hungry Caterpillar and hanging them in sequence around the nursery. Used bookstores are bound to have several affordable copies of this colorful board book.
To give the room some added depth, parents can place sticky hooks just below the ceiling at regular intervals along one wall. Draping several yards of gauze fabric along the ceiling line will bring memories of spring butterfly chases to mind. A few tissue paper butterflies described in the family craft below would accent the fabric nicely.

Greenery is key to a vibrant butterfly nursery. Silk vines, flowers, and potted silk plants will all add to the room’s lush garden feel.
Parents who want to go all out with butterfly nursery decor can hunt down a used desk, table, chairs, dresser, or chest of drawers and give them a butterfly make-over. Stencils make this a decorating project any parent can tackle.
A toy chest stenciled with flowers, butterflies, ladybugs, dragon flies, and green leaves would make a cute and colorful accent piece. Decorators could make a coordinating wall shelf in no time at all.
Higher shelves are a great place to decorate with butterfly themed storybooks. Some great titles include The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, Charlie the Caterpillar by Dom Deluise, Where Butterflies Grow by Joanne Ryder, From Caterpillar to Butterfly by Deborah Heiligman, Clara Caterpillar by Pamela Duncan Edwards, I Wish I Were a Butterfly by James Howe, Wings in the Meadow by Jo Brewer, If at First You Do Not See by Ruth Brown, Caterpillar Caterpillar by Vivian French, The Moon of the Monarch by Jean Craighead George, Malinda Martha Meets Mariposa by Marcia Trimble, The Butterfly Hunt by Yoshi, and A Day in the Life of a Monarch Butterfly by Lizbeth Zappler. Decorating with books is an inexpensive way parents can brighten up the bedroom and instill an early love of reading.

Baby Girls Nursery Decorations – Baby Shower Decorations

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Baby showers are joyous occasions to celebrate the birth of a baby. Baby showers not only add excitement but are also a great way to get together for blessing the new parents-to-be as well as the baby (if the baby is already born). They are a fun way to greet apprehensive moms-to-be. Lots of balloons, streamers, banners and colorful decorations make the party area more lively. Baby showers can be more fun if they are well decorated according to a theme or a particular idea.

Baby shower decorations can be based on themes like animals, nursery rhymes, fairy tale characters, or family themes. The plates, glasses, and other accessories can be based on these themes. Even the guests can dress up to suit the theme of the party. The gifts and favors for the guests as well as the games can also be designed to suit the theme of the party.
Some common decorations for baby shower are beanie babies or stuffed animals as center pieces on tables, candles shaped as babies or baby accessories, pacifiers as napkin holders, potted plants wrapped in colorful diapers, small baby-shaped cakes as center pieces, candy dishes made of jellybellys, baby booties filled with candies placed all over the room, colorfully decorated diapers on clothes line, fun shaped baby tubs as punch bowls, fun shaped lamps which the mom can take for the baby’s room, confetti that says “It’s a boy!” or “It’s a girl!”, chocolate lollipops in the shapes of umbrellas as table decoration, the baby’s crib or stroller decorated to fill in the gifts, pins for all the guests and a special one of the mom-to-be, cloth diapers as place mats, baby bottles as drinking glasses, carriage made of water melon chunks as table decorations, or baby bottles as vases. The idea is to be as creative as possible to make the occasion very memorable and a lot of fun.
There are an endless number of themes to consider when decorating for a baby shower. The only limitation is the imagination of the person doing the decorating.

Bed Crib Sets, Window Treatments, Rugs for Butterfly Nursery

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

The colorful look of the butterfly nursery theme has resulted in quite a few options for crib sets and coordinating accessories. The prices of these sets vary widely. A few of the more popular packages on the market include Lamb and Ivy’s Bedtime Originals Butterfly Kisses crib set, Koala Baby’s Butterfly Collection, Trend Lab’s Baby Butterfly set, Freckles’ Butterfly Garden Crib Bedding Collection, and Poshtots’ custom pink butterfly baby bedding.

Coordinating curtains, wall hangings, area rugs, diaper storage, and lamps accompany most of these crib sets. Do-it-yourself decorators may prefer to make their own curtains and throw pillows from butterfly print or coordinating fabrics. Lacey or sheer nursery window treatments can lend the room a bright and airy feel perfectly suited to a butterfly garden.

Garden Theme Bedroom for Tween Girls

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

It is so much fun redecorating your tween girl’s bedroom. There are a number of ways you can give your daughter a garden theme room. There are also a lot of variations. Start by painting the walls a light sky blue. Don’t forget to get her input on what she wants her room to look like.

Country Cottage Theme

A country cottage theme will be filled with flowers. Find bedding with big beautiful flowers and maybe some butterflies. Get a throw rug with cottage roses on it. Get some light curtains with flowers on them and pin the back with elegant daisy curtain tiebacks.
If you can’t paint very well, there are Wallies cutouts of flowers, planters, birdhouses, and more to create a decorative scene on the wall. Or you can put up a flowered wallpaper border around the room.
You can also get paint-by-number mural kits to paint a scene on one wall. If you can do decorative painting, there are wonderful stencils on the market to create some beautiful scenes. One idea would be to paint a picket fence with rows of flowers growing in front of it, and then add some tall birdhouses. Paint butterflies and birds flying in the air. You can even add a bunny or a cat to your garden. If the room is small, avoid painting a tree, as it would overwhelm the room.

Fairy Garden Theme

There are a number of adorable fairy bedding items, including sheets, comforters, quilts, and matching curtains.
  • Get a fairy throw rug, which can be found online or at some major department stores.
  • There are ready-made murals that you can put on the walls that go on like wallpaper.
  • You can also find wallpaper cutouts that you can reposition without damaging the walls.
  • Buy a fairy lamp or night light.
  • Wherever you have fairies, place dried flowers to give the room a garden appearance.
Fairies are really popular right now. You can find a lot of cute decorations of fairies in most stores. Add throw pillows to the bed and little fairy figurines on flower painted shelves.

                                                                                  Butterfly Garden Theme

You can find some awesome butterfly sheets and comforters with matching rugs and curtains in major department stores and online. Add a butterfly lamp. Add some butterfly drawer pulls, hanging wall butterflies and a butterfly shaped pillow. Get wallpaper cutouts or Wallies of butterflies, and stick them all over the walls. Consider painting a grass scene around the bottom of the walls, above the baseboards to give the room a meadow appearance. If you are creative, you can also paint a pond.

Accessorize

You can really find a lot of accessories for your garden paradise. There are wastebaskets and tissue holders. There are themed tables and chairs, and lamps of all kinds. You can add garden scene posters or pictures to hang on the wall. There are some cute flower or butterfly throw pillows you can purchase, as well as hooks for the wall. You may also like butterfly tiebacks for the curtains and flower-ended curtain rods.
For the tween who has everything, there is even a green leaf chair to sit in. Use your imagination and bring the outdoors into your daughter’s room. Even if you are not artistic, there are still a lot of ready-made items you can get to turn the bedroom into a garden paradise. You can be simple, mod, or elaborate. It is your choice.
The best is that a garden theme bedroom can last for years before changing to something different. Girls between the ages of 9 to 12 like garden themes equally, which makes your decorating ideas easier, and allows you to be more creative because you know that it will stay that way for years.

Ode to a Butterfly. The Search for Unique Butterfly Decor Complete

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Choosing decor for a baby girl is not as easy as it may seem. Especially when you desire to design a unique kids’ room theme.  There are bumblebees and dragonflies and baby birds that tweet.  Flower themes or polka dots or ladybugs so sweet.   A nature theme could make sense – decorate with clouds, sun, and sky. But for our baby girl, the choice is clear – we choose the butterfly.
Butterfly decor is a popular choice in girl’s room decorating which leaves the biggest challenge as finding unique decorative items to make the theme your own.
Bugs-n-Blooms has a creative solution. They design and create nylon decorative butterflies with soft bendable, wire frames and embellish with multi-layered nylon fabrics, sparkling sequins, color matched glitter, and a crystal beaded butterfly body with color matched antennas.  The butterflies come in great kids’ colors such as pink, featured above, purple, lavender, yellow, green, blue, and white.
And, there are so many creative ways to display these beauties!  Create a collage of wall decor as seen in the lavender, butterfly themed nursery above and accent with flowers, ladybugs and other butterfly wall decals or wall hangings.  Hang them from the ceiling and create a soothing rain forest feel.  If your little girl has a  canopy bed, attach them to fishing line and wrap them around the poles of the canopy to help her doze off to dreamland.
For those less interested in a craft project, Bugs-n-Blooms has easier decor solutions that are just as cute such as butterfly wall letters, message boards, and butterfly wall stickers.

Bugs-n-Blooms Participates In Extreme Makeover Home Edition Press Release

Bugs-n-Blooms.com Chosen to Participate in an Upcoming Episode of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”

Texas-based room décor company Bugs-n-Blooms, LLC helps a family in need

Prosper, TX – November 03, 2009 – Bugs-n-Blooms.com is excited to announce they were a proud participant of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, to help an inspirational family in Lyme, NH.

Six years ago Jay and Elena Marshall purchased what they thought was going to be their perfect home. Dreams for adding on to the home came to a halt after they discovered carbon monoxide leaks, mold and rotting wood. Before they could begin tackling the onslaught of problems with their home, their 9-year old son was diagnosed with Leukemia. Despite the mounting medical bills and the looming dangers within their home, the Marshall family came together and rallied their community behind their son’s “Be Positive” campaign. The “Be Positive” campaign, named after Cameron’s blood type, has already brought in around $40,000 for the Children’s Hospital at Darthmoth and Leukemia awareness, including $3,500 Cameron raised on his own.

“It was an honor to be asked to supply my handcrafted items to this well-deserving family,” says Jennifer DeVol, owner of Bugs-n-Blooms. “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” provides safe and healthy homes for many families who face hardships but still find ways to help others, whether they be family or community members.  We provided the show with approximately 35 pieces for their designers to choose from.” DeVol adds, “It will be interesting to see how they use our products because they are so versatile. They can be hung on walls, from ceilings, used on lamps, bedposts and mirrors. Our products are lightweight, easy to pose and add color and sparkle to any little girls room.”

Decorating Tips To Make Your Life Easier

Decorating Tips to Make Your Life Easier

Well, you’ve established a budget and chosen a theme for your nursery, now it’s time to go out and get all this stuff! Before you do, there are some things you should keep in mind.
First, if you are going to buy wallpaper, look for one that is scrubbable vinyl. If it is scrubbable, it will be easier to clean.
If you have chosen to paint, then buy colors that have a matte or satin finish. This goes for furniture, too. The shinier it is, the more likely dirt will show up sooner. Also, really dark or really light colors are also likely to make dirt more visible. So, if you don’t want to spend all your time cleaning the nursery, look for something in the mid-color range.
If you have decided to have carpets in the baby’s room, then consider a textured carpet, not to mention a stain-resistant one. A textured carpet will help disguise dirt. A stain-resistant carpet will just make your life a bit easier when your baby spills his or her juice or spits up. You might also want to consider a hardwood floor, since it is much easier to clean.
Make sure any linen you buy for your baby’s bed is machine washable. You will be doing a lot of laundry as it is. You don’t need to make your job harder by adding items that need special care. A hand-crocheted quilt may be beautiful, but it will also require a hand washing, which means it will never get washed.

You might also want to install a dimmer on the light switch in the nursery. This will allow you to control the amount of light that comes on during those midnight feedings. A bright light might make your little one think it’s time to be up and about. A softer light will help them get back to sleep quicker.
